Christmas Glogg

Scandinavians live in a cold climate.  This time of year, they don’t see the sun a lot.  I think it’s one of the reasons they eat so much lutefisk.   Makes em know they are alive.  But, to turn a nordic frown into a smile, all you need to do is make a little glogg.  It’s a nice warming drink this time of year.  Here is a recipe.

  • 1 bottle of red wine
  • 0.5 Liter inexpensive brandy
  • 10 cardamom pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick (broken down)
  • 1/2 orange peel (dried or fresh)
  • 1/2 lbs sugar (regular or lumps)
  • 5 cloves
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup of almonds

Heat it gently for around 50 minutes.  A crock pot can work well too.  Then strain it through cheesecloth and serve.  If you want to amp up the heat-add more brandy!

For those that don’t know what lutefisk is, here is a link.  They get so much snow up in Norway, they cook everything to match.
