I just finished a book, Warlord, on Winston Churchill. Interesting. This is an excerpt from one of his speeches courtesy of the Winston Churchill Society. It was made in 1926.
The deliberate policy of the Socialists is, of course, to prevent any common action between Liberals and Conservatives in order that Socialism may progress and devour the Liberals at leisure. [Laughter.] All their tactics are conceived with this intention.
But my gravest accusation against the Socialist party is that they are deliberately and wantonly corrupting the character of the British nation. If their only object is to carry out practical reforms without revolution or disorder what is the need and what is the sense of teaching great masses of great-hearted English people to perform the antics and grimaces of Continental Socialism, to mouth the exploded doctrines of Karl Marx, to sing or drone that dreary dirge the Socialist International instead of the National Anthem [cheers], – and to be proud of the Red Flag instead of the Union Jack?
Of course, right after the Nazi’s were disposed of Churchill was put out of office and they socialized Britain. It took Thatcher to get them out.
Some thoughts on the non recovery.
Freeing the market for health care.
Despite the massively increased costs, college still pays.
Republicans are more informed than Democrats. Maybe its because more classical liberals are now Republicans. Democrats are just union loving leftists.
Advice to the wealthy: SELL MORTIMER SELL! “Even if Congress averts the so-called fiscal cliff of tax increases on investments, income and estates, pressure to reduce budget deficits will mean higher taxes eventually”-assuming growth rates don’t jump.
Foreign policy debate tonight. I would love to see them talk a lot about how Obama tried to change from Bush policy, but then is just like Bush in some respects. I also wonder if this Iran thing is a maguffin.
Saw this guy Saturday night. He is a big Nebraska Husker fan.
