Preparing for the Debates

The polls are tight and fluid. The election is approaching. Karl Rove said he thought a lot of the electorate is waiting for the debate to make a decision.

Both candidates are prepping themselves. But I think the press is prepping itself too. Candidates try to get off a memorable line in a debate. “There you go again”; “You’re no John Kennedy”; “My dog has made more shovel ready projects than Obama”.

But I bet Obama’s team has already slipped a few lines to choice members of the press about what he might say. Even if Romney whomps him in the debate, the coverage will be about Obama’s line. The fourth estate was guaranteed freedom of the press by our founders because they wanted to avoid Pravda like situations. What they couldn’t have envisioned is when the fourth estate willingly is complicit with an administration.

One of the ways to remedy this is to get rid of all government control over media, and get rid of all government run media, like public television. Then, let markets decide how they want to consume what’s put out on the airwaves. Give the people choice instead of regulated monopolies.
