The Grove at Ole Miss Today

Today I am hosting a tent in The Grove at Ole Miss. They play Texas. If you can make it, stop on by. We are serving Chicago style hot dogs since they don’t see a lot of that cuisine down here. The Grove is simply the most amazing tailgate I have ever seen at a football game. If you are from Chicago, you’ll understand it when I say, “Ravinia meets the SEC”. If you can’t make this game, make another. It’s worth the trip. To find my tent, look for the city of Chicago’s flag.

Of course, it would not be the south without a bunch of tradition. Every game, the team walks through the Grove on its way to suit up. They come through the Walk of Champions gate. Ole Miss was pretty tough in football back in the 1950′s, and were undefeated in 1962. But, it’s been awhile since they were tough every year. They may lose the game, but they win the party.

The people in the Grove are extremely friendly. Southern hospitality is like no other. When someone says, “I would love for you to come by our tent.”, they really mean it. I find the people in the Grove to be very gracious. It’s refreshing.

The coeds wear cocktail dresses to the Grove. Really. They do. There are more independent dress shops on the square in Oxford than there are on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. The young men wear blazers and ties. Most of the females have a date to escort them to the game. But, most of the females don’t have problems finding a date. Seriously, I don’t know which is prettier; the campus at Ole Miss or the women at Ole Miss. James Altucher tweeted at me that even he had heard that and I can attest it’s true.

Of course, it would not be game day in the Grove without the Ole Miss band playing Pride of the South

Then you go to the game. Hotty Toddy.

UPDATE

Here is a video of what you missed. If you came by the tent, I thank you and hope you enjoyed your Chicago style Ole Miss tailgate. If you didn’t, you will have to come by next year.
