Today June 6, 2011 is The 67th Anniversary of D-Day

On June 6, 1944, a bunch of people engaged in an epic battle for the ages.  It was the beginning of the end of World War Two in Europe; the day that the horrors of the Holocaust came one day closer to ending.  We remember that date for history exams that we take in school.  Fortunately for me, I get to meet people that took part in it.  In my own family, I had a distant relation that was wounded coming ashore at Omaha Beach.  I have linked to this video before, but I think it’s really worth watching.

Here is an oral history from someone that was in the “back half of the first wave” at Omaha Beach. On June 6th, everyone in his detail survived. The oral history is about his actions a couple of days later.

Thanks to some incredible bravery, although some of the participants would say they were simply crazy, we were successful at invading and freeing France. Something to think about during your trading day.

It was the most audacious invasion ever. Huge risk taken by Eisenhower. But he was confident. That is leadership.
