Out of a Swamp Comes a New Dawn

Katrina was 5 years ago. Horrible tragedy. But sometimes you make lemonade out of lemons. After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, John Rockefeller donated money to fund the University of Chicago. Arguably the best college institution in the world today.
In New Orleans, today they broke ground on the new Freedom Pavilion at the National World War Two Museum. It was funded by a grant from the Boeing Corporation. Most of the money for the museum comes from private donations-not the government.

The Pavilion will house a B-17G. It will house other planes as well. There is another real neat exhibit that is being built. It is a mock up of a US Submarine, that visitors will be able to “man”. This one will tell the story of the sub USS Tang. Can’t wait to see it.
CNBC has been doing a expose on New Orleans all week. Surely other news stations will too. Would be nice if instead of rehashing the past, they would head on over to Magazine Street and see the phenomenal accomplishment that will help guide New Orleans future.
The museum is the number one tourist attraction in New Orleans now. It has one of the best restaurants around, The American Sector. The weather down there will be getting a little less humid, so it’s going to be a good time to go visit. Wish the Bears were headed down there to play the Saints this year.
